Merry Christmas

December 26th, 2016 at 05:31 am

Merry Christmas everyone just dropping to say hello I hope post more often in 2017.
Kitty

I'm back again for another year.

January 4th, 2016 at 09:51 pm

It's a long time since I last posted on here, a lot of things have been happening here, the last of hail storm damage has been done. It took almost 12 months to finish.

The cost would have been around $40,000 Au, all up if not more.

I will need to update my spending on monthly daily living allowance at least a summary of the last six months.

I will work on it in the next few days.

Then start on this year's new challenge.

Strategy - Put in writing what you are worried about and see the figures then work out an action plan.

This and That

April 19th, 2015 at 10:19 am

Well the Labour government is running our State but with the help of independents. Things are not going the way they would have hoped but they are still governing. Early days yet! They are the one who had 9 seats in the last government now have 43 in 89 seats house the others have 42 seats.

Our dollar is still falling against the US dollar is now around 76 to 77 cents. I am still getting the age pension so I am ok but they are going to change a few things if the Federal Government have it's way but are being block by the senate here. They are coming up for their second annual budget and somethings in the first budget are still not passed. They are not happy is putting it mildly.

Another Milestone

March 28th, 2015 at 04:55 am

Over 2 million visits who would have thought when I started here I would be seeing that many!

Now for the next milestone of 2000 blogs!

November 15th, 2014 at 06:40 pm

I stuff up the last post I have now redone it on reviewing it I had repeated an early post so I have now corrected it.

Just checking in

August 19th, 2014 at 09:27 pm

It's a long time since I have been on here.

I will need to update my past spending and update on what I have been up too!

A few weeks since I last posted

April 8th, 2014 at 02:23 am

I will have to have a look at my budget again and do an update for you all.

I do like to a record of what I am spending somewhere.
One good thing is that I now paid all my bills and bought NO major purchases to date.

I have caught up with my project and plan to a few weeks off from doing it.

Now it time to work on different projects and this is one of them.

I came on here to find a recipe that I posted here a few years ago now!

Merry Christmas from Australia

December 26th, 2013 at 06:33 am

I would like to wish you Happy Holidays and seasonal greeting to everyone.

Sometime I have missed a few months here and there but I have manage to keep update and on track with my budget and writing about some of the things that may help others along the way. It about seven years since these blogs started here so that may be why all the blogs having their Blogoversary around now!

Flooding Update

January 31st, 2013 at 03:58 am

Six Dead and record flood levels in some towns in two states.

This rain depression travelled from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Sydney about 3000 km plus very slowly down the coast just inland and with another coastal depression out at sea so both together came the rain and high winds all the way down the coast line.

The flooding in Brisbane and Ipswich was not as high as last time (2011) by a long shot. Most houses that went under were from creek and high tide flooding and not river flooding. Other areas were far worse than our area. One family went to look at the river and a tree fell on top of the mother and 3 year old boy the little boy died on Brisbane. Two men tried to go to work in separate cars both were washed away in the same creek. Why do people take risks when they are told not too! Here in our state if you are told to move because of flooding you can be find or gaol if you don’t go the water is running too fast for someone to risk their life to go back and get you! 1500 had to air lifted out because they were cut off and that area was going to be flooded by morning. Still one city Rockhampton is still to flood as the water is coming from another city before it goes out to sea by the weekend. Hopefully we don’t get another cyclone this bad before the end of the season in April.

I finished off being ok; I didn’t lose power once, but two household in families including my son household lost power for 4 days plus. This morning there were some here without power still. With 250000 household and business out the most ever in the south east area, the ground was too soft for the trucks or they have water around the lines that you can’t to get into as the linemen have been working 24/7 since Sunday, they were down to 17000 this morning hopeful only the ones still with water are left only by night fall, If your suburb or area is not on the list now you have to phone the company and report it. They have got to that stage now!

Now for the big clean up!

It’s Flooding again!

January 27th, 2013 at 09:22 am

We had a cyclone in the gulf about six days ago and it was only a category one but the rain it generated is huge, our gulf is 2000 km away from Brisbane but today we have 125km winds and so far over 115 mm of rain so far with another 12 hours to go. Some towns and cities further north are now flooding higher than 2011 flood. Lockyer Valley where all those people died last time is flooding now and all that water is heading for the Bremer river then on to the Brisbane river so around 3500 properties in Ipswich and Brisbane flooding again in the next 48 hours twice as it king tides at the moment so the local creeks are flood now because of the King tides and all this rain some areas have had only year worth of rain in 24 hours so flooding. Tornados are coming with this monsoon rain so far we have had about 8-10 down the coast. Black-out is around in different suburbs my son place has lost power and the linemen are not going out until it safe to fix them. I could have a problem with the loss of power or with Tornado or one of the neighbour trees fall over. I will not be flooded here as I am 45 m above sea level.

Check January 2011 posts for last time it Flooded here.

So I have had no spending day here as I never even opened the front door today to go out.

Six Year Blogoversary

April 28th, 2012 at 10:05 am

Like Lucky Robin it’s my Six Year Blogoversary too!

I think I have slowed down a bit since I first started blogging on here. Some things have changed as I no longer have any cats. I am now on an age pension instead a disability pension but we get the same benefits so not much charge there. But our pension has gone up but a few hundred dollars over the period of time. Still below poverty line but with strict budgeting you can make things happen if you put your mind to it and go without some things along the way.

Update on flooding

March 10th, 2012 at 07:28 pm

First off the rain has stopped but flood waters is still flow down all the rivers some a 1000 miles long will take months as these are slow flowing rivers. The Murray and Darling River system which starts in Queensland and ends in South Australia but area flooding now is the Riverina area.

Update on things here weather wise.

March 2nd, 2012 at 05:37 pm

NSW and Victoria are now

Text is flooding and Link is http://weather.ninemsn.com.au/news/flooding-rain-to-return-to-southern-nsw-and-eastern-vic/20827
flooding; a few weeks ago the water coming from Queensland is now flooding outback NSW down the Darling River. It’s rain again in central NSW and Victoria with low ridge coming from NT all the way to Tasmania. This toft is slow moving and heavy rains so that it’s now flooding areas closer to the great divide range this water will end up in the Murray River system in which the Darling River will flow into a few weeks. 75% of outback NSW is under water, area the size of France and now the main dam for Sydney flood gates were opened for the first time yesterday in 14 years.

It’s this weather pattern that causes flooding on wide scale here. So if you don’t believe in climate change and our weather patterns are changing then revisit the idea as we have had 10 years of drought then 3 years where this weather pattern end in flooding on a grand scale. As Australia runs downhill from north to south all water will end up in the southern ocean that doesn’t get used all the way. Some areas need to have free flowing rivers which the Darling River head waters are part of that system.

As for Victoria there is mainly flooding around the Murray River areas again with more rain flood water to come from the flood in NSW and another 100 mm is forecast this weekend.

This system will move into our area over the next week as its slowing moving east to the coast.

It’s Flooding again!

February 6th, 2012 at 11:17 pm

Have you have been following News from this part of the world! A monsoon front has come through last week down centre of Queensland and NSW. A number of towns have been flooded and one St George has had to be evaluated only leaving about 400 people in the town mostly they are working on the levee banks in the town and security. After last year 90% flooding our state has mandatory evacuation orders in place. Some people didn’t have time to get things before being put on planes or put into cars before the roads closed. The water is higher than last year which was the record peck then. The flood levee is 14.7 metres and water is at 14 metres last night and still coming down the river. It should peck today almost at flood levy height if it holes then most the house will ok.

This water has to get down into Murray River catchment and then out to sea in South Australia. So all the towns in between will be flooded in turn like Burke NSW. Some of this rain did fall in NSW so water is heading west to meet up with the Queensland water too!

St George holding as river nears peak

Now we wait and see.

Brisbane is safe for now and Dams are at safe level at 86% but last year was 190% full when they let the dams open full. But we are having a flood inquire into last year’s dam release.

Cyclone Yasi update

February 3rd, 2011 at 06:35 am

Well Cyclone Yasi was a category 5 over 285km per hour. It didn’t come in on largely populated area so where it did impact it did a lot of property damage as they move a lot of people because as most of the small town along the coast are at sea level and storm surges of up to 5m high above high tide but some areas that were largely populated areas are lost power and now have only one day supply of water and over 180,000 with out power in the areas. Now this Cyclone Yasi is heading for Mt Isa and Alice Spring in next day or so. But it should be a tropical low by the time it gets to Alice Spring with over 100mm of rain. It heavy rain depression and flash flooding is next.

I think it could take many years to get Queensland back on it feet in the long term. As for tourist as Cairn, Port Douglas above should ok as these areas didn’t to much damages and Airlie Beach area should come back up and running quickly. As for the Gold Coast never got any flooding or cyclone damage is open for business, I will keep you posted on travelling in Queensland.

David and Goliath cyclones

The smaller Cyclone Anthony crossed the coast near Bowen and is now a rain depression causing 300-400mm rain with wind and look like more flooding, south of Bowen at Mackay as this city is below sea level in parts and its river rising fast.

Now for the bigger Cyclone Yasi to see what it will do, with all the soaked ground around it take very little to start flooding again in parts.

Update Flooding

January 19th, 2011 at 06:28 am

If you have been checking the links in my other posts for more updates, you will know about, what a fantastic job done by the Mud Army and regular Army to get Brisbane and Ipswich cleared of all that mud and smelly rubbish.

We have now storms coming into flooded area that are re-flooding some of these areas again.

I came across this link

Waiting until it loads then move the black line across to see the before and after photos or click on larger map which will zoom in and move around to different areas.

Text is flood maps and Link is http://www.abc.net.au/news/infographics/qld-floods/beforeafter.htm
flood maps

Now Victoria is flooding but not as bad for now as Queensland but some this water has to end up in Murray River where these places are flooding now from monsoon rains that went as far down to Tasmania. So when the flood water from Queensland gets to Murray River as a lot of our rivers run south, I hope they are ready for it again. The whole of Australia is soaked but for small part of Western Australia, I would think and we still have more to come until May at least.

Clean up begins

January 15th, 2011 at 06:30 am

Clean up begins

The floodwater went down very quickly thank goodness, as we only about 20 kilometres from the Morton Bay. Most of the areas are now clear and thousands have come out to help. Our State government and local councils had master plans to deal with this crisis in place. Some of these videos will show you our state command centre. Everything is run from here when crisis develops in this state it was set up a few years ago. We were getting briefing every 2 hours whether good or bad. Our TV channels are all are covering the flooding crisis which is now covering five states but only Queensland flood crisis is covered by this command centre.

Sun is out for now!

December 9th, 2010 at 05:59 am

Sun is shining in this part of the world, but it’s very muggy as we have had a lot of rain over the past few weeks. Its part of the climate change I think,

Text is La Niña and Link is http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/ENSO-summary.shtml
La Niña conditions will continue to dominate the tropical Pacific as it has done for the past few months, we have had a very wet spring this year and have had rain or very cloudy days for the past few weeks and we are into 9th day of summer. Cyclone season is yet to come so we will be in for it I think.

Some parts of Australia it’s flooding as the ground is very saturated and can’t take much more water anywhere but for WA and that’ s to far away from where its raining.

Some parts of Australia have had over 100mm today but not here.
Here we are most likely will get more rain tomorrow.

Here a link to
Text is Bureau of Meteorology and Link is http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/

Check the rivers & flooding as there are flooding in some parts of SA, Vic, NSW, & Old and number of rivers are flowing again so this flooding will last for weeks.

Photo Test Run didn’t work.

August 14th, 2010 at 10:21 pm

It looks like I need to go back to writing without pictures full time. I did a test run with one lot and it down again this morning.

Will try to put up new post today.

Its been awhile!

July 20th, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Its awhile since I blogged here!

So a quick rundown of what’s been happening around here.

I took a short break as my son cancelled all my favorites when he downloaded his iPhone download last time; I ended up with his favorites not mine. It’s lucky that my favorites websites are noted in any down load that I had taken. I use this method as a tracker so I know who to get credits any phrases that I post or keep on file. All ends well as it did clean out the deadwood in that favorites list.

I will try to post a bit more regularly from now on.

Is the Forum down?
