   this makes me really sad...i saw it on the news tonight too. he has a baby girl, and he did a lot of good not only educating people about wildlife, but doing great things for zoo's and others as well
   
   he will be missed

   Wow, that's sad.
   
   On the other hand, he lived his life the way he wanted, ended up with a successful TV show, and contributed to humanity greatly. So, in a way, he lived a happier, fuller life than many of us probably ever will.
   
   RIP Mr. Irwin.

   Woke up to the news this morning, and am surprised to find how much it's saddened me. I never watched his show that much, but he left an impression. Sad to see someone go who loved life, in all its forms, so much.

   It's truly tragic. I've been sad all day about this. What a huge shame for his little kids. How ironic that it was only a stingray that killed him, when he took such risks with all those mightly crocs. My thoughts are with his family.

   I, too, read about it this morning...yes, we used to get his shows here in ES, too!...
   I must say it reminded me of a (new) friend - from the contest - who told us about being a leukemia survivor and how when she was at her worst, she decided: "I want to be ALIVE when I die!"...he was doing what he loved

   "Only" a stingray? Good heavens, those things are powerful. They just look deceptively tame. But I always thought he'd get killed by a croc, so the way he died was a definite surprise. I feel bad for his wife. She's from around here (well, Oregon), and his 8 year old daughter and 3 year old son.

   I heard that he died before a station break and didn't learn how he died for a few minutes. I was relieved it was not a croc, but I suppose a stingray is not much better. Sad. He was so full of life and enthusiasm.

   It's very sad, his is the only third dead recorded here by a string-ray barb. It got him in the heart and he wasn't playing with it. It was on video too! If you get stab in the trunk near a organ it can kill you. If he had been stab anywhere else he would have lived.
   
   All the young children here are taking it bad. So is his the little township near where Australia ZOO is. Google ..Australia Zoo for more information.

    I think he took too many chances. He was doing it so long, maybe he became complacent.

    But he wasn't even working or playing with the sting rays. It really was a freak accident. I loved watching him and his shows. Blessings, Steve. We'll all miss you.
