Watering my garden with recycle water

July 4th, 2006 at 11:09 am

Its washing day again but its over cast but very little rain but only on the coast. I did hang my clothes under cover as I don’t need them for a few days anyway! I watered my back garden with the recycled water as I washed today and it did the whole back yard garden too! I had a few buckets leftover for top up in a few days time. Lawn still doesn’t need a mow sp I am lucky I may get a few more months before I need to buy a new lawn mower. Just think of all the interest that I am saving as I now saved the money for it. I have earmark around $500 for the mower, even if it’s just in my mind.

I will mow some time next week and give the yard a bit of a tidy up & mulch, mulch.

how do you get the water from the washing machine to use for the lawn? My washer doesn't let me open it until it's done and all the water is gone.

The hose from the washing machine goes into my sink then I put small bucket under that and pour that into a larger buckets. You have to be there to do this. Here you can buy a hose that fits the washing machine water outlet but it only goes onto one place in the garden so I am doing it my way with buckets as I can water 100% of back garden not just one area there. You only fill them 2/3 full or you will end up with a bad back & shoulders too! Today I filled two 10 gallon rubbish bins and 18 buckets out of washing machine that will water my back garden twice before next wash day. I do have top loader that take a lot of water so that's why I need to recycle it. I got around 95% of the water for recycling. Including double using washing suds water and hand washing with it too!

Hi there. I have set up a grey water from my washing machine. I do believe that the QLD gov don't like it ? but hey. Anyway what I have done and its very easy. I got myself a 220 ltr plastic container (did have truck wash in it). Put it next to my washing machine. Now the hose that comes out of the machine I put it into the top of the container. Near the bottom of the container i drilled a hole and put in a normal tap. the tap has a connector that connects to my normal garden hose. then i gravity feed it into the garden etc. I recommend not to connect a long hose to the outlet of the washing machine as it puts to much load the the water pump in the machine(costly to fix). My 6.5kg(top load) washing machine running normal cycle fills the tank to about 80%.
It works so well and very easy to set up. I am about to get another 220 ltr from work and going to run the two together. I will be trying to get myself a small water pump to pump it around. maybe a water pump from a water fountain will do ? need to save up first.
