They finish doing the road base just now!

They did give up doing a normal job on it. When they got it dug up they found some of the White Clay was still wet. Yes potter clay no wonder it kept breaking up after heavy rain, so in the end they did main roads surface job on it, its something not done normally on side streets, only where heavy traffic past over all the time. The road base is now 100% asphalt road base surface to 200mm deep 40 tonnes of it with a felt sheet over the clay to start with then asphalt on top of that. No rain today. They were extra careful near the water pipe, it will be a nightmare to dig up if they ever have too! Now the finisher gang is to come early next week to put the final bitumen surface on top. Hopefully thats all for next 15 years or so!

    wow- you know a lot about your city's work! I still havnt figured out what a bunch of trucks were doing on my street for 3 days as they had a big hose and a big cement thing and they kept switching locations. As long as I still have water and electric I just dont worry about it.

    We get a letters in the mail when they coming to do the job and letter in the mail box to tell you to NOT park your car in the street. I am at home so I have a chat to the workmen too! I do ask questions and I have been living here long enough to know when the last time these jobs were done or not. One spot on the road had to be fixed each time it rained for the last 5 years and when they dug it out it was the white clay spot. Think plotter clay on a plotters wheel how soft that is then wet.
