Growing Vegetables

I have been off online for a while now but I am back.

I have my vegetable garden up and running, I picked my first vegetable yesterday to cook an Asian green which is the fasts to grow in just little under 7 weeks. I have two beds so far just for vegetables and I am planning to add another one by the end of month. So far I have cabbages, broccoli, spinach, Asian greens, chilies, fennel, green onions, baby carrots and strawberries planted. Before I make the other bed, I will have to move my compost bins and cut a scrub down a bit as this is sunniest spot left to grow vegetables.

Weekly Main Meals Menu

Sunday ~ Hamburgers and Salad
Monday ~ Chili Beans on Toast
Tuesday Chicken Schnitzel & Egg with Vegetables
Wednesday ~ Pasta with Tuna & Tomato Sauce
Thursday ~ ~ Grilled Sausages with Onions & Grilled Tomato
Friday ~ poached fish and vegetables
Saturday ~ Omelet with salad

    I have eaten lettuce, snap peas and string beans from my garden so far. The tomatos and cucumbers are coming along nicely but the zucchini flowers don't seem to be getting pollinated and they're so crowded by the tomato plants that i can't hand-pollinate myself. I also have garlic and sweet pepper plants. I need a MUCH bigger garden next year.

    You can grow these veggies in winter!? That's great, but does it mean your summers are too hot for gardening? I see tomato twice on your menu. That is one of my priority crops, as the ones we can buy in regular stores here are so tasteless...This week I invested in 3 new weeding tools which should increase my efficiency and ability to keep up with the garden as I age.

    My garden is doing well, too! I have onions, some harvested for the greens already. I also have tomatoes, green pepper, lettuce...just about ready and string beans. We've had lots of rain on a regular basis with fairly mild temps, so they are loving it out there. My kids love to go out and check on weeds, and dig out the few onions.

    My brother just came down from GA and he had bell peppers, 2-3 different squash, tomatos, cucumbers and some other items I am not sure of; but the point is he grew all this himself and saved a ton. Now you guys are growing your own vegetables, I guess it is time for me to jump on the band wagon

    Glad you're back, Kitty. I plan to create weekly menus like you do, using local vegetables from the farmer's market. I will also try to do a better job of growing a variety of vegetables in my patio containers. So far, I only have a few peppers and they are not ready yet.

    I'm so glad your back, we missed your posts. Wonderful to hear about the garden items which were planted & their progress.

    As well as this week's menu list.

    This was the first year we've develop a small garden, at our property. We're planted several trees: 2 peach, 2 hazelnuts, 2 cherry bling, 2 black cherries, 2 plums, 6 blueberries, 2 blackberries, 2 red lake currants, 1 red raspberry, 2 pixwell gooseberries.

    As per tomato plants about 6, 2 pepper plants, and 1 watermelon, 2 elphant garlic.

    Everything is doing so well, my family & I are very excited. We're already planting what we'll garden towards next year.
