Had to get an electrician in!

October 10th, 2012 at 08:44 am

Last time I used my washing machine the power point wouldn’t work as it stopped in the middle of a cycle. As my washing machine is 1985 vintage I thought that I would need a new one, I do have that money invested so was just about to start looking for new one! Then I decided that I should put the washing machine on power lead to another power point to check if it was still working and it was. So no need for a new one just yet!

I phone my Home Assist Service for pensioners which will pay part of the bill for you that‘s $88 off bill. Today he came to check my power points in the laundry and fix a light there too! I had the light fittings so only needed to pay for the new power points he had replaced two, I don’t like iffy things if there’s a problem its gets fixed with too many house fires with faulty electrical around the place. The total cost of out of pocket expensive was only $36.50.

He also set my mind a rest on the power spikes that I get from time to time. It’s my solar hot water power unit starting up it only goes for a few minutes and not all day at 3500 kWh I will have to learn to live with that.

Strategy - If it can be fixed then repair it, but use the less than half rule on replacement costs rule.

Having a washer function for 27 years is remarkable. My gran expected her wringer washer to last her life time. It was still operational but so much work when she was compelled to sell her house and move to nursing care. How wonderful for seniors that OZ offers Home Assist. Is it tax supported or do you buy it like insurance?

Tax supported but could close at anytime if they had to cut funding to these organizationsits it's done by grants. They have to spending X amount per year of the grant or they will lose it. Only full pensioners and DSP can get it. If you are pensioner in OZ check it out.

That is an impressive string with the same washer, I wonder if any of the current models could lead to a service life that long?! I was wondering the same thing as snafu, whether it was from taxes or from a separate insurance policy. That is great that the state covers it!

I looked at the Fridge Marget today and it's our State goverment but as they are trimming costs here there may be not service next year.
